🔥 All successful people have this thing in common

I saw a spot on LinkedIn post by Nick Huber today.

This is what it said:

âťť

What most of the successful people I know have in common:

They worked hard doing something that wasn't fun for 5+ years.

Many times 10-20+ yrs.

They started out trading their time for money.

They did things that weren’t scalable.

Many of them offered services to start.

They all had to talk to people to generate sales. Most of the time this was face to face.

They weren't afraid to sell themselves or their ideas.

They didn’t take a lot of risk early on.

They grew modestly and sustainably year after year.

5-10 years in was when the cashflow really started to pile up.

They didn't chase their passion at all.

They chased an obvious opportunity to make money today.

They did all of the boring and common sense things you'd expect for a really long time.

They worked in a traditional industry that was not sexy and had been around for years.

They didn't try to reinvent the wheel.

He’s so spot on 💯

And Mark Manson (author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck) says it like this:

One of the most common questions I get from clients:

“I want to prepare everything and learn exactly what I should sell before I leave my 9 to 5 and build my business”

You should prepare.

And I don’t recommend anyone to leave their job before they have sales traction.

But you need to realise that things take time.

There’s a lot of iteration before you find what works.

I’ve tweaked things in my business a million times.

I’ve done a lot of things that aren’t scalable at all.

It’s part of the game.

And it’s how we learn what works.

The only shortcut there is:

Is to keep showing up.

And speak with clients.

Even if you’re at 9% that day: show up.

Success is about getting good at the BORING stuff that most people don't want to do.

Because 80% of success in life is just about showing up.

And a big part of learning what will work (and sell) is to do the unscalable things.

  • Show up

  • Meet people

  • Take calculated risks

  • Don’t be afraid of looking like a fool (we all do in the beginning)

  • Don’t fear failure - failing is a huge part of building a business

So, remember:

Break things.

Show up with 9% 🪫.

Experiment.

Fail.

Try stuff.

Improve.

Make mistakes.

Build stuff.

Ship them before perfection.

Iterate forward.

It's the only way to make progress, and figure out what works.

Let’s build our own momentum through CONSISTENCY.

In 6-9 months you will be glad that you did.
