👋 Building a Life We Don’t Need a Vacation From
I left a juicy 6-figure salary and stopped asking for permission.

I used to think that success meant working myself to the bone, always pushing forward, climbing higher and higher, always saying “yes” to every opportunity.
For 16-17 years I built someone else’s dream.
And don’t get my wrong, I learnt a ton from it.
It’s what I advice everyone to do before starting their own business:
Work for a startup, be a sponge; learn sales and marketing.
Without those years, I would not be where I am today.
I reached:
A global go-to-market role
Experienced hyper-growth and built a unicorn company
Worked in SaaS and deep tech (love these industries)
A big juicy 6-figure salary
A nice title
Had a big global team
Two manager layers under me
With those things, I also got:
More responsibility
Bigger targets
More meetings
More stress
Less time with my family
After more than a decade of that I started feeling it was not enough anymore.
I was done with asking for permission.
I was done with chasing targets and making other people rich.
I was done with letting an employer determine my growth and income.
More, more, more, more..felt like it wasn’t my life anymore.
The harder I worked, the more I felt out of control.

3 years ago I woke up.
I knew I had to make a change.
So I jumped off.
I left my “successful” career.
I had no plan.
People thought I had gone mad.
Looking back, this turned out to be the best decision in my career.
I finally had time to think and ask myself what I wanted to do.
This is what I did to reset:
I gave myself a break: I went on a career break. The first few weeks were insane. My mind was wandering all the time and I asked myself over and over again; what the f*ck have I done??!
Looking back: that break changed my life.I put family first: My family has always been number one for me but I stopped sacrificing quality time with my loved ones for the sake of work and began to truly be present.
I decided to only say YES to things that brought me joy: This may sound strange but I barely knew what that was because I had been working all the time. Me and my family started traveling a lot more. We started to experience more things together. I started to hear my own thoughts again.
That career break was a necessary detox.I knew I wanted more ownership: looking back I can see it so clearly now. The only way to get true ownership is to become a business owner and build your own thing. As long as you work for someone else, you will always ask for permission.
There’s nothing wrong with that but it’s not for me anymore.I aligned personal goals with career goals: From day one I have built my business MY WAY.
I stayed true to myself and said no to things I hate:
- back-to-back calls even though I would make more money
- I time-block my calendar according to my energy levels; mornings for deep work, afternoon for calls
- I politely say no to a ton of podcast requests
- I create content I love. I hate recording videos (yes you can build a thriving business without video content)
- Being kidnapped 24/7 always on call
I redefined what success looked like for me and found a way to blend both.I don’t work with assholes: Life is too short for it. Really. Life. Is. Too. Short. For. It.

The result?
I love working.
I always have, always will.
Building businesses is my passion.
I love sales.
And I love helping founders succeed with their businesses.
Today I run a lean, fast moving, profitable cash-flow online business.
I have found my perfect blend.
It’s not work or personal life.
It’s LIFE.
My life.
I decide when I work.
I decide who I work with.
I decide where I work.
It’s up to me how much money I make.
This is my version of freedom.

I’m more productive.
More present with my family.
And more energized than ever before.
Every day looks different.
And the best part: I no longer feel the need to escape my life or go on vacation to “rest”.
I have also realised how much I have been holding back when I was employed.
Now, nothing is holding me back anymore.
It’s both fantastic and terrifying at the same time: it’s all up to me.
Don’t make anyone put you in a box.
F*ck the box.

We are all so much more than one role, one job description, one career.
Success isn’t just about building a business or building someone else’s business.
Success is about building a life that aligns with your values, your well-being, and your happiness.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start, take a step back and think about what truly matters to you.
And start from there.
Let’s build lives we don’t need a vacation from.
To your success and happiness,
Hanna
