Lately I’ve seen a new pattern in the questions I get.

People who think that there’s a magic button to build a company or a portfolio career.

There’s no shortcut.

If there was, we would not see so many businesses fail.

The best way to describe the process of bringing something new (product or service) to the market is iteration.

When you start building it’s all about:

→ Failing fast

Build a simple MVP, speak to customers, get their input.

Are people willing to pay for this?

If you have an audience: test things.

Be prepared to get a lot of no’s.

→ Do it scared

Be prepared to feel uncomfortable and even terrified.

Be prepared to look like a fool.

→ Iterate LOADS

You don't want 10,000 hours, you want 10,000 iterations.

→ Say yes to everything

Learn what sticks.

→ F*ck the business plan

You don’t need one.

You need to test things.

You will change things a million times before you find the right approach.

Before you find the right customer.

The right pricing.

The right delivery process.

You need action, relentless drive and belief in your vision, patience and iteration.

→ Be prepared to look like a fool

→ Drop the ego (the sooner the better)

No one knows everything. Ask for help. Be a sponge.

→ If it feels like a roller coaster, you are on the right path 🎢

At the same time:

→ Find people to learn from

→ Let the no’s fuel you forward

It’s 100% normal to get no’s.

But you need to learn from them.

Improve.

Come back better.

→ Build your personal brand & audience from the start

This is how you learn what works out there.

→ Surround yourself with people who inspire you to aim higher

You need to get invited to rooms you haven’t had access to before. Learn from people who are ahead of you.

→ Combine AI & human soft skills & turn it into your competitive advantage 🧠

Have a laser-focus on:

→ Doing things that don’t scale

Every single entrepreneur I’ve and listened to say this.

Don’t try to automate too fast.

→ Being obsessed of the customer

Never lose the love for the customer. Spend time with them.

→ Go all in on organic customer acquisition

→ How to convert traffic to revenue (audience → targeted traffic to your LinkedIn profile → your website → convert traffic → repeat, repeat, repeat) 📈

When you get momentum:

→ Start saying no

→ Raise your prices

→ Say no to discovery calls (not for everyone)

→ Lean into patience & play the long game

→ Build an ecosystem around your company

→ Create loads of content: educate, inspire and entertain

→ A targeted landing page (enable conversion) is a MUST

→ Avoid a serious headache: have documentation & processes in place 😅

Trust the process, it will be worth it.

And above all else:

Start SELLING as fast as you possible can.
