6 tips from growing my business with contractors!
This week a client asked me:
“How do I make sure my business still delivers high quality if I start bringing in contractors to help me deliver done-for-you services?”
It’s a really good question I often get in consultation calls so I thought, why not reply to it here so everyone can get my take on it.
Bringing in contractors sounds risky and complex, but it’s not.
It’s the opposite.
It’s a win-win.
Here are 6 tips on how to grow your business with contractors:
1 - Build tight playbooks
This is where great documentation comes in.
The playbook should describe your standard operating procedures, including:
- How task X is performed
- How Project A looks like. Provide documentation from A to Z.
- What excellence looks like and why we do it this way.
- How a project is delivered and when its completed.
The playbook is a living document that should be improved regularly.
Ask the person who works for you:
How can the playbook be improved? Is something missing?

2 - Clear deliverables
Everything is a project.
Every task should be clear, actionable and tied to a deliverable in a specific customer project. You pay by finalised project.
Use templates so everyone is using your format and work methodology.
The more clarity you provide, the more autonomy you give to the contractor.
3 - Regular check-ins
Meet them on a regular basis and follow up how things are going. Synchronous and asynchronous check-ins.
4 - Contracts
Clarify expectations, ownership and your relationship.
5 - Payment
I recommend using an EOR service provider for contract management and payments.
We use Deel to pay our contractors to stay compliant.
And sometimes we do direct bank transfers when it’s doable.

6 - Hiring
Every person I’ve hired has come through my audience.
They have reached out to me directly.
CVs doesn’t matter anymore.
What matters is:
- Attitude
- Value alignment
- And how they handle feedback.
That’s it.

This model is so scalable and flexible.
Talent is all over the world 🌏
So why limit ourselves to look for local talent?
I love to work with people who are at the start of building their business and want to take on more customers.
You are part of each other’s journey for as long as it makes sense.
It’s a win-win for both parties.
Hope these tips helped you.
Until next time,
Hanna
