1 - Why I chose beehiiv for my newsletter

ā†“

Guess what, you donā€™t own your audience on social media.

The social media platform set the rules.

And you are always in the hands of the algorithm.

Building my personal brand on LinkedIn has literally changed my life.

But that doesnā€™t mean we should put all eggs in one basket.

So, if you want more options and independence, you should build an email list.

Beehiiv is built by the early Morning Brew team.

Meaning they know exactly what matters for readers and newsletter builders.

Itā€™s super easy to set up and get started.

The design, user experience, features, the look and feel is modern and playful.

2 - How to monetize a newsletter

ā†“

Not only do you have much more flexibility and access to your subscribers when you have a newsletter, you also decide how often you publish the newsletter and promote your own products and services.

And its much easier to launch a new product or service when you have a newsletter.

And you can also monetize a newsletter in several different ways:

  • Join the beehiiv ad network - like the one you see above, I earn money from every click

  • Boosts - you make money when you market someone elseā€™s newsletter

  • Affiliate program - when you recommend someone to use beehiiv

  • Bring in your own sponsors

Itā€™s really up to you how much money you make from your newsletter.

3 - How to effectively grow an email list

ā†“

On your social media; LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, Facebook -you promote your newsletter.

Put it on your LinkedIn profile.

Your email signature.

Pitch it in your guides, courses, content, your newsletter on LinkedIn etc.

Be intentional with it and you will grow your email list.

4 - The pros and cons with a LinkedIn newsletter

ā†“

Pros:

  • LinkedIn helps you build the newsletter by asking everyone who connects with you; ā€œdo you also want to follow Hannaā€™s newsletter?ā€

  • Thatā€™s also why it grows much faster than an external newsletter, because you donā€™t ask them for their email address. Itā€™s hard to earn access to someoneā€™s email address today.

  • The LinkedIn newsletter shows up in peopleā€™s feed and inbox.

  • People are already on that platform so generally if you make good content you will get people to read it.

  • My LinkedIn newsletter The Future of Work converts really well to revenue. I keep it super short and to the point. I add visuals, and always, always a new banner for each week.

  • At the end of each edition I pitch my products and services.

  • I can really recommend that you start one - itā€™s so much fun!

The Future of Work Newsletter

Read this edition here

I started it 2 years ago.

Iā€™ve published one edition per week since then.

And now its nearly at 90k subscribers.

Cons

You donā€™t own peopleā€™s email addresses.

5 - The pros and cons with an external newsletter platform

ā†“

It takes time to build up.

Itā€™s harder to earn someoneā€™s email address.

Youā€™re competing with everyone and everything that wants peopleā€™s attention.

Still, I canā€™t recommend it enough.

Because you are not in the hands of an algorithm and you have direct access to your subscribers.

I wish I had started building mine sooner. Better late than never.

This is what every entrepreneur and builder of audiences have on their agenda: they are asking their followers to subscribe to their email list.
