✅ 4 Steps to get your first 10 customers

A simple framework to go from zero to paying clients

The first year when I started my business I sold to closest network.

This is very common in the beginning - but long term it’s not sustainable.

You need to build your personal brand from day 1 on social media. Because it takes time to make strangers trust you.

Building online = Enable more people to find you and your services.

Here are 4 steps to get your first 10 customers.

🔥 1. ASK FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES, AND FAMILY

Take a look around you:

  • Who in your closest network needs your service/product?

  • Who can open a door for you?

This is a common way to get started.

Use platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok.

Focus on getting 1 customer at a time.

(I did consulting as well in the beginning to keep the pressure off)

You start SOMEWHERE.
You start with SOMETHING.

→ Then you LISTEN to feedback.

It's very likely that your offer will need to change/be tweaked.

This is 100% normal.

→ You iterate forward.

Brick by brick. Step by step.

Remove "scale" from your mind.

Gradually you become better and better at packaging your offer, building distribution, selling (finding the right customers) and delivering.

✅ Finding product market fit is ITERATION.
❌ It can't be found in a book.

Remember:

You don’t want 10,000 hours, you want 10,000 iterations.

Start where you are and turn to your network.

🔥 2. REACH OUT TO STRANGERS

This can be through:

Build TRUST and reach at scale through audience growth.

Share so much free value that you make it a no brainer to buy from you.

Publishing content regularly on LinkedIn is like having a sales rep working for you 24/7, bringing in eyeballs and inbound leads.

🔥 3. GO WHERE THEY ALREADY HANG OUT ONLINE/OFFLINE

Grab eyeballs where potential clients hang out:

  • Etsy

  • Reddit

  • Gumroad

  • Sponsor a newsletter with the right subscribers

  • Events? (personally I feel events deliver ZERO, I go all in on online activities, it's much more scalable)

  • Social media platforms (Facebook groups, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc)

So much online is FREE these days - you don’t need a budget or VC funding anymore to build your dream.

The gatekeepers are gone.

Building an online business is doable for everyone.

Focus on finding a good problem people are willing to pay you for.

Remember:

Selling is about HELPING people and solving problems for them. If you feel you need to "convince them", you are trying to sell to the wrong people.

  • newspapers

  • magazines

  • people with newsletters

..and pitch them a good story.

Ask someone with a newsletter, they might be interested in interviewing you → This way you tap into their network and expand your reach.

Return the favour to them through your newsletter.

♻️ CREATE your own reach.
📈 Build your own MOMENTUM.

→ More eyeballs is what you want.

Remember:

People remember stories up to 22 times more than facts alone.

→ Do things that doesn't scale.

Things that will make you stand out from the crowd.

Most people don't. Most people are busy copying others, and are distracted by the latest "hack".

Ignore the noise and FOCUS.
