Monetizing your knowledge through your personal brand is a business model.
It's a way to go to market with your business.
If someone would have told me 2 years ago that I would be where I am today, I would never have believed them.
I coach people on how to get started.
And how to take their business off the ground.
What I teach them is not to:
- build a perfect website
- build a perfect business plan
- plan and determine your deal customer profile and audience before you get started
No.
This is the old way of building a business.
I coach people to start EXACTLY where they are.
And start SIMPLE.
Ask yourself these 5 questions:
1. What is your goal with building your personal brand?
2. What do you want to be known for?
3. What do you want to do more/less of in the future?
4. Is your LinkedIn profile updated?
If not, update it asap. It needs clarity. Without clarity no conversion.
This goes for EVERYONE:
- jobseekers
- business owners
- employees who have a side hustle
By not having a clear and updated profile: you're leaving money on the table.
When it is updated, your profile is like a sales rep working for you 24/7.
5. Do you know how to build reach on social media?
Do you know what moves the needle and what doesn't?
Not knowing is like standing at a lake, fishing, with shit bate and there's no fish in the lake.
No response = no inbound leads.
No results? β You give up.
Learn how to create content so people LISTEN.
This is the most important skill you should invest in right now.
There's no better growth hack than content creation.
And building thought leadership through your personal brand.
Learning HOW to monetize your own knowledge through your personal brand is a BUSINESS MODEL.
I've met a couple of people lately who thinks this business model is:
- not a "real" way of building a business
- a way to become an "influencer"
- lonely because you work alone
- only doable for some people
That's so WRONG.
Here are some of the benefits of this business model:
1. The business is profitable from day one.
2. It's built through content on social media = organic audience growth.
3. It's lean = one employee.
4. Theyβve built and established thought leadership online.
5. After a while these business owners started building products and services and sold less time (multiple revenue streams).
6. Many got started by:
- monetizing their own knowledge
- built products that solved their own problems
- build products for their audience
7. The business heavily relies on systems.
8. They own 100% of their own their own business. They own 100% of their distribution. They don't need funding from a VC and give away half of their business = have someone else set the growth targets.
9. When they started getting momentum, they started outsourcing or bringing in people to help them deliver.
10. They iterate forward and they never stop.
11. When they find what works, they double on it.
12. They build on their own terms.
They were driven by two fundamental human needs:
Independence and freedom.
This model is doable for every knowledge worker out there.
This is the business model I used to build my business.
It's given me freedom, options and a life a I don't need a vacation from.
I set the rules.
I set the pace.
β Reach and trust = my personal brand
β Distribution = one of my biggest focus areas
β Started = monetized my knowledge + adding services bit by bit
β Products = built for my audience and what they need
β Lean team = a mix of full time employee + contractors
β Domains: hannalarsson.me + my production company/agency hunt.rs
Still to this day, I'm the only full-time employee of these two companies.
But I have several contractors delivering to my business on a contract basis.
And next week I'm hiring the second full time employee to my business.
Building a business is an iterative process. With lots of experimentation.
This model will require you to try lots of different things.
But one thing remains the same:
β Consistency.
The consistency everyday has insane compounding return.
This is the rise of the content-led business model.
And it starts with YOU.
